THX Logo
THX Ltd. is an American-based company headquartered in San Rafael, California. THX stands for Tomlinson Holman Experiment. Its name comes from the 1971 George Lucas film THX 1138. The company's purpose is to create "high fidelity" audio for surround sound theaters and other uses. In 2016, the company was acquired by Singaporean consumer technology company Razer Inc. THX was formerly a subsidiary of Creative Technology Limited (2002-2016), and originally Lucasfilm (1983-2002).
THX's services were often used in The Walt Disney Company, Pixar, 20th Century Studios, Warner Bros. and Buena Vista releasing feature-length films, typically for home media use until late 2012. When it came to Pixar feature-length films, it was typically for theatrical and home video purposes.
In 1996, the company debuted a robot mascot named Tex.
